When we come to do a free estimate we bring photos and swatch books to help choose fabric & style of make up.Both make a difference to the total price.
We used the crumpled ,but sturdy,old Ikea sofa below to illustrate a budget cover and a luxury traditional cover.
We decided to re style the sofa by re placing the pillow edged fibre back cushions with soft foam back boxes, shaped to go over the arm,and to dispense with the side cushions. The saving on the side cushions paid for the new back foams. Below,the full scale pattern is about to be cut.
The “budget” cover was made from a simple cotton from Ikea at < £4/m & run up on a 5 thread overlocker,which seams and neatens in one go.
The “luxury traditional”has piped seams,lined valances and other quality details.The fabric is heavy ,hard wearing chenille at >£20/m.
